Othala-Fehu, the philosophy of Fé Óðal, or S.P.I.E.

Society of the Prosperous Icelanders in England was officially founded on October 28th, 2005, in a club in Camden Town, London. It gathers representatives of the Icelandic diaspora in Britain - these are people with different interests, social and professional spheres, but connected by their common Icelandic identity. The main idea behind this "club" is to encourage the establishment of firm social and intellectual links between these people.

Icelanders are of typically Norse stock: they are normally very successful, but they are mainly keen on individualism, and strongly rely on their own abilities to manage in life. So, S.P.I.E. aims to upgrade their abilities by binding them and giving them a chance to benefit from the opportunities a broader collective gives - because "The Whole Is More Than Its Parts Alone". In this meaning, this club is a sort of social experiment.

There are several curious facts lying within the foundation of the society. Firstly, its name was deliberately composed to sound like [SPY], thus making a funny allusion with secret societies, parodying them. Second, its motto (at least one of the many) is "Through Order To Progress", which in fact is a paraphrase of the sentence on the Brazilian flag. Third, the logo of SPIE consists of the runes Fehu and Othal, the first and last in the Elder Futhark, symbolising the inclusion of all wisdom of life. And last but not least, the two runes themselves have a meaning in the Futhark - Fehu (or more correctly, in Icelandic) symbolises possession, income and luck, whilst Othal (in Icelandic it is Óðal) represents prosperity, property and heritage. These are actually the goals of the Icelanders in England and elsewhere: to exploit their individual qualities and achieve prosperity and stability through collective partnership.
Fehu+Othala
And not to forget how these two runes sound when bound together: FE-UDAL! Oh how much i like symbolism

Apart from the practical stuff, this alliance has some other meanings. Inevitably, part of its members are much into the Ásatrú philosophy and way of perception, or as its more broadly popular here in UK, heathen culture. One example is part of the Code which, oddly, is presented in a versified form. I think it tells a lot, and yet doesnt necessarily bind anyone to this particular philosophy. But my point is, some who know where to search, could find the statement hidden behind these lines with relative ease:

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
[Key sentence follows]

More (incl. the key sentence) to be revealed later here, as there are curious connections between Fé Óðal and another, much older and much more serious alliance of which i've long been a member...
